England’s top tennis towns revealed!

With the Queens tennis tournament in full swing and Wimbledon on the horizon, we’ve been crunching the numbers here at Property Detective towers to find out which town is England’s best-equipped when it comes to all things tennis.

After analysing over 4,000,000 points of data from our website, we’ve compiled the top 50 tennis-mad towns based on the total number of tennis courts available for people living there.

Excluding London – which predictably takes 1st place – the biggest tennis court town is actually a city – Sheffield – with 343 courts in total, heading off surprise entrant Ipswich in 3rd place.

Top 10 Tennis Towns in England:

London – 1162
Sheffield – 343
Ipswich – 324
Leicester – 289
Bristol – 204
Birmingham – 188
Reading – 188
Nottingham – 173
York – 156
Norwich – 146

Although languishing in 73rd place in terms of the total number of courts, Cranbrook in Kent enjoys the greatest number of courts per capita, with just 77 people for every tennis court available. In other words, an equal distribution of court booking time would give every person more than 1 week’s use of a tennis court, based on playing as a singles match.
